The Elbphilharmonie magazine Gold Edition was published in January 2017 for the opening of the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg in a limited edition of 5,000 copies. The publisher was the Hamburger Abendblatt, a newspaper that belongs to the Zeitungsgruppe Hamburg GmbH. During the production, the publisher placed a great deal of importance on a pleasant feel for the magazine, good image reproduction and of course the quality of the paper. MedienSchiff Bruno, as a service provider, was responsible for the implementation of that demand for quality.

Design with attention to the details

The look-and-feel of the magazine had to match the newspaper print of the Hamburger Abendblatt as much as possible, while being unique with a high quality level. PERGRAPHICA® was chosen for the core of the magazine, whereas a different paper was chosen for the cover. The special edition stood out thanks to its particularly large format of 400 × 570 mm, and the impressive Swiss brochure binding with thread-stitching and special finishing on the cover.

Sold out before it was produced

The success of the Elbphilharmonie magazine Gold Edition speaks for itself: The special edition was completely sold out even before it was actually produced, and the feedback from the readers was very positive – both in relation to the content, design and production of the magazine as well as the quality and look-and-feel of the chosen types of paper.

With the Elbphilharmonie Magazine, the Hamburger Abendblatt has produced another high-quality print product, which stands out thanks to
its content, features and layout. The quality of the paper gives the images, texts and graphics a refined and authentic look. The bulk of the paper used for the core of the magazine gives a pleasant haptic feeling, while the strong cover provides stability. The sales of the magazine and the positive feedback of the readers exceeded our expectations and confirmed that we had made the right choice regarding the content as well as the material.
